1872 PRIMITIVE METHODIST. Life of Anti-High Brow, Camp-Meeting Methodist, Hugh Bourne - Fine Leather Presbyterian preached at the Missionary SocietyA very attractively presented copy of the life of Hugh Bourne [1772 1852], co founder of Primitive Methodism. By around 1900, the Wesleyan Methodist movement had become all to "Anglican," educated, and up classed for Bourne's liking. He began to wage war against it, emphasizing American style camp meetings, focusing on working class regions of England, and preaching open air. In his mind, this was a return to Wesley's vision and to the book of Acts.
